A PEDOPHILE priest who claimed he was giving an altar boy an anatomy lesson when he sexually molested him has been jailed for more than two years.
Desmond Laurence Gannon, 79, was a Catholic priest at Kilmore, north of Melbourne, when he abused the boy on three separate occasions in 1968 and 1969.
Gannon pleaded guilty to five counts of indecently assaulting a male under 16.
The offences occurred during an 18-year period of abuse at Victorian parishes by Gannon.
Sentencing Gannon, Judge Frank Gucciardo said the abuse terrified his victim and made the boy "feel sick".
"This was a well-worn, thought-out routine ... with sex education a poor excuse," he said.
The judge said Gannon had demonstrated a lack of remorse and empathy.
He jailed Gannon for 25 months, ordering him to serve 14 months before being eligible for parole.
