Catholic priest’s NGO raided

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials raided this morning the office of an NGO managed by a Catholic priest in Chennai in connection with the raging telecom scam.


The CBI officials probing the 2G scam raided several houses and offices of friends and acquaints of some leaders of the Dravid Munnetra Kazhakam (DMK), a partner in the coalition that rules the federal government.

Among the raided was the office of Maiyam, an NGO managed by Father Jegath Gaspel, that organizes marathon and other events in Chennai.

One of the directors of the NGO is DMK leader Kanimozhi , reportedly a supporter of A. Raja, who recently resigned as the federal telecom minister.

NDTV television quoted CBI sources as saying the money trail in the 2G scam may include the NGO. Auditor of Kanimozhi’s mother has also been raided.
